Electronic Poker is a beloved game that usually will be wagered on in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your PC, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to get the best combination of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the involvement with other players. Of course, methods employed during a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be "handed out" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has hold buttons, and players should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the bettor has chosen which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be dealt if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that discerning players are able to pick the most profitable machine every instance.

After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that might have been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to double their wins, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also differences among individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
