Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be bet on in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at your house on your home computer, through a net connection. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the best assemblage of cards possible in order to come away with money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and presses the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and bettors should now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are dealt if desired. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful bettors are able to pick the most beneficial machine each time.
Once the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case another round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
